Birth of Ishmael

Canaan (present-day Palestine/Israel)

The Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام, then eighty-five years old, was blessed with his firstborn son Ishmael through his wife Hajar. An angel had foretold the birth to Hajar, assuring her that God had heard her affliction and would multiply her descendants beyond number. Ibrahim named his son Ishmael — 'God shall hear' — in fulfillment of that divine promise.
